Jayne’s project

Saturday was a beautiful sunshine day, breathing some love and life back into a misbehaving garden! It’s amazing the difference can make to your outlook by changing the form of some larger shrubs/trees and tidying the edges.

Clipped, tidied, moved around :)

Clipped, tidied, moved around 🙂

Large row of conifers clipped and made into a formal hedge, large conifer tree to the right had lower branches removed to make a lollipop tree, bringing a feeling of light and space to the garden.  Untidy Philadelphus cut down and the large Rhododendron in the pot temporarily moved to fill the gap. Dead branches and crossing branches removed from the Prunus. Dead tree from behind the end of the conifer hedge removed, again allowing light to the hedge.

Roses taken out the pots and moved to the ground, a new small border has been created in front of the dead tree stump in the left corner, removing the dead grass area and creating a focal point.

Edges of lawn Strimmed and edged to bring back that tidy look and the gravel areas were weeded.  The Rudbeckias were staked and tidied and some low maintenance herbaceous stock was added to bring life to the border next spring.  The pots the roses were in were re-used to plant a bulb medley that should give an extended flowering period with iris, daffodils and tulips.  The tired red leaved Azalea that was struggling in the pot was moved to the border to be surrounded by the black Ophiogon grass making a stunning contrast.

Not a bad days work me thinks, and one very happy customer 🙂

This raised bed has not had a great season struggling to flower or grow much, so to rectify things some good old horse manure is going to be added, but to do that we needed to make space, and so begins the removal of the forget-me-nots.Poppy border before
